The pharmacological properties of polyphenols, especially anti-tumour activity, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities, support the use of these agents as complementary nutritional/pharmacological biomolecules. However, more attention should be paid to the bioavailability and toxicity in humans, as they are the key to developing treatments [335]. Given the fact that polyphenols regulate multiple molecular targets and signalling pathways, it is important to further elucidate these mechanisms to determine potential interactions with chemotherapy agents. In keeping with the evidence presented here, polyphenols can be considered as a therapeutic approach for the treatment of leukaemia alone and in combination with chemotherapy agents, although antagonistic actions must also be investigated [23,24,336].4
